Fundamentals of Provider Contracting

These Fundamentals of Provider Contracting courses are designed for the various Contract Manager users including those viewing, administrating, and managing contracts.  The training consists of instructor-led, hands-on topics offering students up-to-date knowledge and hands-on experience with Network Performance Management's (NPM) Contract Manager. The focus of the courses includes providing basic knowledge to be an effective Contract Manager user, creating and managing contracts, and library management.

Contract Management Basics
This ½-day course is designed for casual users of Contract Manager who will mostly have permission only to view contracts and provider records. 

Lessons include:

  • Contract Manager Concepts - Attendees will learn the building blocks of contracts in Contract Manager and receive tips and guidance on what to look at when viewing contracts.
  • Getting to Know Contract Manager - Attendees will learn how to navigate Contract Manager, manage their workspace for greater efficiency and how to search for contracts and providers.
  • Providers in Contract Manager -Attendees will learn how to find and view provider records and create a provider mailing list from records in Contract Manager.
  • Viewing Contracts - Attendees will learn how to search for contracts in Contract Manager, receive additional practice finding contract information, and how to download information to Excel.
  • Review and Approval - Attendees will learn how to print contracts and perform contract reviews.
  • Queries - Attendees will learn enhanced searching using predefined contract and provider queries.
  • Memos -Attendees will learn how to view contract memos and add additional memos to contracts and providers.

Contract Manager Administration
This ½-day course is designed for casual users of Contract Manager.  The course covers topics needed by a Contract Manager administrator.

Lessons include:

  • Users and Roles - Attendees will learn how to create and maintain users and roles/permissions.
  • Categories - Attendees will learn how to create and delete categories that users can apply to contracts, providers, and contract templates.
  • Business Entities - Attendees will learn how to manage business entities in Contract Manager.
  • Custom Forms - Attendees will learn how to create custom forms and custom fields in Contract Manager.
  • Custom Types - Attendees will learn how to configure the various custom types in Contract Manager (such as address, memo, attachment and contact types).
  • Queries - Attendees will learn how to create contract and provider queries for all users to search with.
  • System Defaults - Attendees will learn about the system defaults managed on the Contract Manager server.

Core Contracting
This 3-day course is designed for all users creating and managing contracts in Contract Manager. 

Lessons include:

  • Introduction - Attendees will learn basic Contract Manager navigation and how to interpret the user interface.  Attendees will also learn some of the concepts necessary for later lessons.
  • Creating and editing provider records in Contract Manager - Attendees will learn how to create and edit provider records in Contract Manager.
  • Preparing standard contracts - Attendees will learn how to prepare standard contracts following a basic workflow.  They will also learn how they can make pre-approved changes to contract language.
  • Preparing bulk contracts - Attendees will learn how to prepare large groups of contracts in one simple workflow.
  • Preparing custom contracts - Attendees will create standard contracts and then learn how to make custom changes to those contracts.
  • Review and approval - Attendees will learn how to request reviews/approvals and perform reviews/approvals on custom contracts.
  • Process contract signatures - Attendees will complete the contract lifecycle, learning how to record contract signature information and activate a contract in Contract Manager.
  • Find and export information - Attendees will learn advanced searching and browsing techniques including using queries.  They will also learn enhanced information organization skills using categories.

Negotiator & Courier
This 1-day course is designed for all users creating and managing contracts. 

Lessons include:

  • Introduction to Negotiator - Attendees will learn the value added by Negotiator and compare Negotiator to their current negotiation process.  They will also learn how to find information on current and completed negotiations.
  • Preparing for Negotiation - Attendees will learn how to prepare for negotiation from both Contract Manager setup and preparing providers to contract via Negotiator.
  • Simple Negotiation - Attendees will learn how to begin a new negotiation for a contract, negotiate from both the health plan and provider perspectives, and finally close a negotiation.
  • Detailed Negotiation - Attendees will continue to build skills using Negotiator including printing a summary of negotiated terms and customizing contract language based on the negotiation.
  • Introduction to Courier - Attendees will learn the value added by Courier and how to prepare Contract Manger information for using Courier.
  • Simple Contract Signing - Attendees will learn how to send a contract for electronic signature via Courier.  Attendees will eSign a contract as both a provider and a health plan.
  • More Courier Functionality - Attendees will learn how to send an eSignature receipt summary to a provider.  They will also learn how to use Courier to sign contracts in bulk and plan how to handle rejected contracts.
  • Self-paced exercises - Attendees will continue to practice using Courier following general guidelines.

Library Management
This 2-day course is covers advanced topics for Library Managers (who are usually senior contractors) as well as some advanced topics using Microsoft Word to unlock Contract Manager’s potential.

Lessons include:

  • Increase your Contract Manager Savvy - Attendees will refresh their understanding of how components in Contract Manager relate to each other.  They will also learn advanced concepts such as the difference between actions such as revising and copying components.
  • MS Word skills for Contract Manager - Attendees will learn how to use MS Word features such as styles and list numbering to create consistently formatted documents that can take better advantage of Contract Manager functionality.
  • Evaluate documents in your library - Attendees will learn how to review contract documents to identify opportunities to use Contract Manager features like variables, alternate terms and additional documents.  They will also learn how to plan out styles and list numbering in MS Word.
  • Gain flexibility and efficiency with variables - Attendees will learn about multiple types of variables, how to create custom variables and how to create contract forms for custom variables.
  • Prepare strategic documents - Attendees will create consistently formatted documents by applying styles and insert contract variables.
  • Build and troubleshoot documents - Attendees will learn how to import documents in to Contract Manager and set up alternate terms functionality.  They will also learn how to test and troubleshoot newly imported documents.
  • Develop and update foundation content - Attendees will learn how to update existing library content in Contract Manager as well as how to create new library content to create contracts with.

  • MHS's office in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania
  • MHS's west coast office in Beaverton, Oregon.
  • On-site training can be arranged for groups up to 12.
